Area residents have visited the White House at Edgewater Golf Course for special occasions and starting Friday, Oct. 26, they will be able to enjoy the experience six days a week.

Owner Diane Simms will open the White House Sunday through Friday to provide a casual and formal dining experience in the spacious facility. The restaurant will be closed on Saturday to continue to cater local events, such as weddings, reunions and private parties.

"I have always been interested in cooking and enjoy it," Simms said. The restaurant will allow Simms to expand on her catering business to offer more selections.

Located in a renovated barn, Simms has created a spacious dining area that seats 100 people comfortably, with some large tables set up to accommodate families. Between enjoying bites of the White House's strip steak, pasta, Swiss steak, signature meatloaf and pan-fried chicken, customers may enjoy the view of the golf course. The restaurant will also serve beer and wine.

Simms said reservations will be taken, but are not required.

"From the formal to casual diner, they are all invited to visit the White House," she said.

The White House will also offer daily specials to tantalize the tastebuds, including salmon patties, all-you-can-eat spaghetti and antipasta salad, ham and scalloped potatoes and turkey with all the fixings. Dinners start at $8.

Simms will be open on Thanksgiving.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, customers can enjoy affordable meals, such as Friday's breaded scrod dinner, omelets, or soups and sandwiches.

Starting at $3.50, the breakfast menu includes sausage gravy and biscuits and old-fashioned waffles. Lunches start at $5.50 and Simms has included the hot roast-beef sandwich with mashed potatoes to the lunch menu.

The White House will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.

For those too busy to cook, carry-outs will be available by calling 330-862-2630.

In addition to the restaurant, Simms will also have a sports bar open downstairs where customers can enjoy appetizers and drinks and watch the big game on the television. The sports bar will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Located between Minerva and Alliance, the White House Restaurant at Edgewater Golf Course is located at 2401 Fox Ave. SE, Minerva.
