Shawnee Maertin and son, Holden, spent about two weeks visiting family and friends before the Thanksgiving holiday. Holden is so cute and just adorable and is 2 months old now. They live in Michigan so we don't get to see him everyday! Brother, Curtis Schleappi was home from Ohio State. While here, they also celebrated the 23rd birthday of her brother, Josh.
Twenty years ago this week: It was announced that David and Melanie Clark were hosts to Mrs. Clark's nephew, Staff Sergeant Kevin McCassree, wife, Tamie and daughter, Krina. Kevin has been reassigned to 29 Palms, California. During the visit, a joint birthday celebration for Joshua Clark and Erin McCassree was celebrated by immediate family members. Joshua is the son of David and Melanie and had a birthday on Nov. 8. He was in the third grade a Walker Elementary.
The Canton South Class of '59 Luncheon group met for lunch at McCall's Restaurant on Nov. 16. Everyone had an enjoyable time. The next luncheon will be on, Dec. 21 at 11:30 a.m. at McCall's Restaurant. The group has been booked for 2017 on the third Wednesday of each month at McCall's. Any class member is welcome to attend.
The McKinley Rubber Stamp Club met for its annual Christmas stamp session on Sunday, Nov. 13 at the Arlington Church of God. No meeting will be held in December. The next class will be Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. at the church.

Hey kids: You are invited to the 21st annual Children's Christmas Party at the Foltz Community Center on Dec. 4 from 2-4 p.m. Children ages 12 and under are invited. Parents are asked to pre-register by Dec. 1 at the Foltz Center by calling 330-488-6500. Forms will be sent home with your children from school. Children are asked to bring a small toy, coloring book, crayons, puzzle, etc. to the party to be placed under the tree to be donated to Toys for Tots. The event is free. Parents must accompany their children at the party.
Mark you calendars now for the following fundraisers at the Foltz Community Center: Sunday Brunch will be Dec. 11 from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children and free for ages 2 and under. On Dec. 21, enjoy a Swiss steak dinner which includes a salad bar, dessert, coffee, tea and soft drink. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for ages 2 and under. Hey seniors: Give a great big thank you to the Foltz Community Center. Come out for the monthly senior social on Dec. 14 at 10:30 a.m. The menu will be roast pork, mashed potatoes, vegetable, and applesauce. Enjoy listening to the East Canton Echoes show choir. If not already signed up, call for a reservation or if you would like a table for six or more, call 330-488-6500. Get a free blood pressure screening by the Osnaburg Township Fire Department. All are invited to stay to play Bingo, cards, games or just socialize.
AARP will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Foltz Community Center on Dec. 20. Enjoy Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, vegetable, and tossed salad. The cost is $7. The ECHS Echoes will sing. Welcome home to Sgt. Michael Murphy who has arrived back to the Sandy Valley area after serving in the USMC for 7 1/2 years. Most recently, he was stationed in Kaneohe, HI and was a member of the Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band. He plans to continue his education at Malone University in January and currently resides in Waynesburg with his wife Julianne and sons Michael and Liam.

Congratulations to Steve France, son of Jim and Jane France of Waynesburg. Steve is a math teacher at Kings Junior High School in Kings Mills, Ohio. He recently received the Ohio Middle Level Association 2016 Region Award for Excellence in Teaching which is presented for outstanding "commitment and contributions to middle level educaion." He was recognized for his ability to connect with students on all levels and his student-centered approach. He and his wife, Joy have a daughter Eva, a senior in high school. Former Sandy Valley math teachers should be very proud!
