Congratulations to students Caroline Monger who was nominated by choir director Amy Bush and Noah Franks who was nominated by math teacher Greg Fach as nominees for teen of the month for January.

Twenty years ago this week: Nicholas Kuhn celebrated his 10th birthday with a party on Feb. 1 at the North Canton Roller Rink with 35 classmates and friends. His brother Josh who also had his 7th birthday the following day missed Nick's party because he was sick and celebrated his own birthday on penicillin.

Hey dog lovers: Pups N' Pages will be held at the East Canton Library on Saturday Feb. 25 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Licensed therapy dogs will listen as you read. A Teens Create after school program will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Feb. 12, 21, 23 and 28. Hang out with your friends and make new ones.

To all of those seniors out there: You know the ones over 50 up to over 100. The Silver Sneakers are leading the senior flex classes at the Foltz Community Center. Equipment is supplied. Do as much or as little as you want. Trained instructors will help you move and groove to music. Come out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 a.m. If the Foltz Community Center is closed no classes will be held that day. The cost is free. For more information, call 330-488-6500.

Sandy Valley Youth Girls Softball will hold its sign ups at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church across from Sandy Valley Elementary. The dates and times are Feb. 11 and 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Feb. 15 and 22 from 6-8 p.m. Bring a copy of the player's birth certificate if one is not on file. Sandy Valley High School Summer League Baseball will have a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Feb. 11 from 3-6 p.m. at the Sandy Valley Eagles. The cost is $7. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and other raffles.

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church will serve its free monthly dinner on Friday, Feb. 10 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Carry out is available and deliveries can be arranged by calling the church office at 330-866-9293. Bingo for prizes begins at 3:30 p.m. prior to the meal. All are invited to attend.

Jump Rope for Heart is an annual event sponsered by the American Heart Association. At Sandy Valley Elementary, students jump rope for heart health. Mr. Calkins helps organize the yearly event.

Students had a blast jumping rope and doing a variety of other activities. Great job, Sandy Valley Elementary staying healthy and jumping rope for a great cause! Jump Rope for Heart runs until Feb. 14.

The Helping Hands Network will hold its monthly free clothing give away on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m.- noon. The event is open to anyone in need. For more information, contact the center at 330-866-2005.

Columbus's OhioMHAS will be at Sandy Valley on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the high school performing arts hall to present their "Start Talking" event. All community members are encouraged to attend. After OhioMHAS concludes their presentation, Nick Bianco, the founder and CEO of Bianco Sober Living Accommodations (Summit County) will share his story, vision, and mission to assist those who are actively seeking recovery and discuss why prevention starts with conversations.

A benefit rigatoni dinner for Wendy Neice is set for Saturday, Feb. 25 from 4-8 p.m. at St. Mary's Morges Fellowship Hall. Dinner will be by donation and all proceeds will go to help with medical expenses.

The Berkley Fishing Team will hold its annual Ribs and Beer Night on April 10 at the Canton Civic Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. For tickets, call 330-484-3507 or 330-904-2217. The ticket price is $30 per person, and it includes free drinks.
