By MIKE MUNDY The Press-News SANDY TWP. -- At the Dec. 5, regular meeting, township trustees installed a replacement for Doug Dix on the Quad Ambulance Board. They also got an update from American Landfill about handling drilling wastes. Ron Reed was named to replace Dix, who had asked trustees to find a replacement for him at a recent meeting. Reed was on hand and made the following comments, "Jimmy Herstine spoke with me about this position. I do believe in Quad Ambulance as an asset. My family has used it and I see the fine response time. I would be happy to fill this position." The trustees also heard from Chad Abel of American Landfill. Abel was present to update trustees about the landfill's role in local drilling efforts. Abel explained the landfill is accepting drilling wastes brought in, in vacuum roll-off boxes. Trustee Robert Fallot asked Abel about how the waste was inspected. Abel explained Chesapeake Oil has to fill out a profile and explain what they are delivering. The landfill technical center handles evaluations and inspects the wastes. They can accept no man-made radioactive wastes, he added. Fallot also wanted to know who will do the checking as drilling accelerates. Abel replied Chesapeake has to fulfill the terms of its agreement. He also noted the Stark County Health Board is doing weekly checks. Abel said the drilling will continue for 4-6 years. Trustees heard the police report from Magnolia Chief Jeff Hager and a fire report from Sandy Township Chief Dan Barnes. The fire department made six runs and now totals 90 for the year. Barnes reminded trustees that the Winter Fest will be at the station on Friday starting at 6:30. In the road report, superintendent Gary McKinney said the trucks are ready for winter. He also noted there has been a trash problem on Elson, and they have been removing deer carcasses in the area. The end of the year meeting will be Dec. 30 at 4 p.m. The first meeting of the new year will be Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m. Bills were paid totaling $18,706.72.
