Mohawk Valley Joint Fire District, Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department and the Great Trail Fire District of Malvern responded to a fire on Mapledale Ave. S.E. on March 8 that was called in at approximately 9:05 p.m.

The fire began as a garage fire that ended up spreading to three mobile homes and three vehicles that were downwind from the smoke and flames.

"The garage was attached to a mobile home," said Mohawk Valley Joint Fire District Chief James Marraccini. "Both were on fire and made a tunnel between two other neighboring homes. The north side mobile home caught on fire and the south side home got its side melted. Firefighters took those out first, then attacked the middle fire."

Thirteen people were out and safe. Approximately 34 firefighters from all three fire departments were on scene.

"The fire was like 30 or 40 foot long blowtorch with the strong winds," said Marraccini.

By approximately 10:40 p.m., both fires were under control.

Marracinni received a notice that a local business, The West End Inn of Waynesburg brought approximately six party pizzas, 10 two liters of beverages, two cases of water and six or eight bags of potato chips for firefighter personnel."

"The West End Inn did this on their own volition and I can't express how appreciative we are to the community and businesses within the community that supports us," said Marracinni.
