The Canton South Class of 1962 held its 55th reunion at Faircrest Park on July 15. Those attending brought a sack lunch and enjoyed visiting with 22 classmates. They plan on an outing each year.

The Canton South Class of 1961 enjoyed a buffet luncheon at McCall's Restaurant on July 20. Thirty-four classmates and 21 guests attended the 56-year reunion. Classmates were pleased to see Dr. Harold (Pete) Walker, former superintendent at Canton South, as a guest. The reunion committee provided cookies. There were a number of classmates whom we had not seen in years. We were delighted they came to the reunion. It was great to see everyone. There will be an annual reunion the third Thursday in July. The next reunion will be Thursday, July 19, 2018.

Twenty years ago this week the retired cafeteria workers of the Canton Local School District met for their monthly luncheon on Aug. 12. They traveled to the Hartville Kitchen for the noon get-together.

The East Canton Village Park received a very special gift on July 26th. A handicap swing was donated to the park by Carol McAdow, in memory of her husband, Ralph McAdow. The swing was dedicated during a ceremony with the East Canton Mayor Kathy Almasy, Village Administrator Ed Collins, and other guest. It is located at the bottom of the park and is ready for use. Those needing information on how to use the swing can call village hall at 330-488-0220.

A farmer's market will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, 8 a.m. until noon, on Browning Street behind the Foltz Community Center. That same day, the American Legion Post 667 will host a car, motorcycle and antique tractor show starting at 9 a.m. at the Smith Gym parking lot on Browning Street. The rain date is Aug. 19.

Don't forget the human foosball court in now open, behind the Foltz Center in the old bandstand. Come out and play some games.

Learn the basis of locating, downloading and reading a digital library book on your mobile device or computer during a class on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2-3 p.m. at the East Canton Library.

Women's Memoir Group meet every Tuesday, 11 a.m. until noon, at the library. Everyone has a story to tell. Discuss how to bring your memories to life. Classes are free.

The senior social will be held Wednesday, Aug. 9. The menu consists of stuffed peppers, vegetable, and tossed salad. The program will be given by SAM. Please bring and item or two to donated to the commissary pantry. For reservations, call 330-488-6500.

The Neisel families recently returned from a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Nona Nancy and Popo Gary Neisel enjoyed the time with their kids and grandkids.

Ron and Adriana Reed and the Albert Woodin family recently enjoyed spending time with family from from Italy. Cristiana and Fabrizio had a great time visiting, golfing, and taking in the sights of the Valley.They even had their names on the board at Taggart's.

Sandy Valley Class of 1982 celebrated its 35th reunion last week at Tozzi's on 12th with a pre-celebration at the Sandy Valley Eagles.

Sandy Valley Drug Awareness Initiative will host "Yoga to be Free" on Aug. 6, 6 p.m. at Sandy Valley High School. The cost is $10 and will go towards providing drug awareness programs in the schools and community. Anyone is welcome to attend.

A benefit will be held at the Sandy Valley Eagles Aerie #3228 on Aug. 19 for Sandy Valley student Nick Capillo. The spaghetti dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and the cost is $8. Dinner will be followed by music from the band Red Ravin. Nick was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a childhood bone cancer. Raffles and a 50/50 drawing will also be held that evening. Stark Parks Summer Serenade in the Park, hosted by the Canton Symphony Orchestra, will be held from 3-4 p.m. at Fry Family Park on Farber St. in Magnolia on Saturday, Aug. 26.

The Sandy Valley Church of God will hold a dinner on Sept 16, 4-7 p.m. to help raise funds for its seniors retreat to Gatlinburg next April. The dinner will consist of ham or chicken, baked or sweet potato, green beans, roll and dessert. The cost is $10 per person. Tickets must be purchased in advance, so contact Patty at 330-453-6671 or Randy at 234-386-0119. Voting will take place that evening to chose a senior king and queen, music, door prizes, and pictures will be available.
