Twenty years ago this week Dan and Andrea Clemens were juniors at Kentucky Christian College. Andrea was in music education and Dan was in ministry education. He was appointed as youth minister of the Quincy Church of Christ in Quincy, Kentucky. Dan is the son of Judy Clemens and a 1992 graduate of Canton South. Andrea is the daughter of Denny and Diane Herris and a 1995 graduate of Canton South.

East Canton Church of God has been having a free clothing give away for years. Besides clothing, they have free books, household items, and much more. The clothing give away building sits at the east end of the church parking lot. St. Paul's Church has free gowns for any school function for girls. All sizes available. Becca's Closet was started through the family of young lady who loved to help others. Everyone has a story to tell. And what would you give to find a story your mother, father, grandparent or a loved one wrote many years ago? Come to the Memoir Meetings and learn how to write and share your story with others just like you. Classes are free and held every Tuesday from 11 a.m. until noon at the Foltz Community Center. Don't forget the butterfly release set for Aug. 20 at the Foltz Community Center at 1:45 p.m. Each butterfly costs $15. This is a project of the Greater East Canton Community Development Association to help support their Memorial Garden.

Congratulations and best wishes to Tom McKenzie on his retirement. His family surprised him with a party at Papa Bear's Pizza Oven to celebrate his 42 years and 11 months at Timken Steel. He even received a metal painted replica of his Challenger car as a gift.

Congratulations to Paige Dagenhard on receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Toledo. Her parents, Paul and Trisha, travelled there to help her celebrate this honor, as well as her engagement.

Canal Days is this weekend. Events include a car show, Queen's Pageant, pie contest, talent show, photo contest, Grand Parade floats, local bands, food stands, bingo, and much more. The fire department is looking for donations of pies and cakes for its eats stand. The hours for Canal Days are Friday, Aug. 11, 5-9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, 4-9 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 13, noon to 7 p.m. The parade will be held Sunday at 2 p.m.

A benefit will be held at the Sandy Valley Eagles Aerie #3228 on Aug. 19 for Sandy Valley student Nick Capillo. The spaghetti dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and the cost is $8. Dinner will be followed by music from the band Red Ravin. Nick was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a childhood bone cancer. Raffles and a 50/50 drawing will also be held that evening. Stark Parks Summer Serenade in the Park, hosted by the Canton Symphony Orchestra, will be held from 3-4 p.m. at Fry Family Park on Farber St. in Magnolia on Saturday, Aug. 26.

The Sandy Valley Church of God will hold a dinner on Sept 16, 4-7 p.m. to help raise funds for its seniors retreat to Gatlinburg next April. The dinner will consist of ham or chicken, baked or sweet potato, green beans, roll and dessert. The cost is $10 per person. Tickets must be purchased in advance, so contact Patty at 330-453-6671 or Randy at 234-386-0119. Voting will take place that evening to chose a senior king and queen, music, door prizes, and pictures will be available.
