Wizards post two wins

East Canton dominated play from start to finish, posting a 61-27 win over host Newcomerstown.

Savannah Yacklin led the Wizards with 24 points. Ja'Bria Knight and Madison Blake each had seven points, and Mary Reichard added six points.

The Wizards led 12-9 at the end of one quarter of play, 28-14 at halftime, and 46-17 heading into the final stanza.

Yacklin scored 15 second-half points in leading East Canton past Sandy Valley 49-31

The Wizards jumped out to a 12-4 first quarter advantage, and the Lady Cardinals responded with a 13-5 second stanza as the two teams went into intermission tied at 17-17.

East Canton played perhaps its best quarter of the season as it outscored the visitors 18-5 for a 35-22 lead heading into the final stanza.

Yacklin and Addison Loy did most of the damage for the winners in the third frame as each scored eight points.

East Canton was never threatened the rest of the way.

Yacklin finished with a game-high 21 points. Loy had eight points and Reichard had seven points.

East Canton (6-13, 5-9) was to face Malvern on Feb. 8; travel to Strasburg on Saturday, Feb. 11; and close out the regular season hosting Kidron Central on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Tournament Draw

The Division IV Creston District Tournament draw was held this past Sunday. East Canton earned the seventh seed and will take on either Dalton (#3) or Lake Center (#11) at a site and time to be decided.
