Sandy Valley was the host site of the East District Division III Sectional Wrestling Tournament.
The Cardinals had a strong showing, with five matmen moving on, including two champions.
Qualifying to districts are Cooper Hemming at 113, Jacob Newell at 126, Caleb Blair at 145, Hunter Stoffer at 152, and Francesco Borsellino at 285.
Newell (31-11) pinned his way to a championship. The sophomore felled Garaway's Dillon Rothacher at 1:11 and Shenandoah's Wesley Guy at 1:58 to reach the finals, where he pinned top-seeded Levi Pemberton of Caldwell at 4:44.
Borsellino (9-0) received byes all the way to the semifinals, where he made quick work of Shenandoah's Easton Htichens, recording the pin in just 35 seconds.
With first place on the line, Borsellino pinned Harrison Central's Brenton Stull at 1:57.
Hemming (24-12) recorded two wins to reach the finals, pinning Shenandoah's William Moore at 1:52, and recording a tech fall against Toronto's Cole Harris 17-2.
In the championship match, Hemming lost to Edison's James Torres 6-4 in overtime.
Stoffer (24-3) made it to the finals with a pins against Shenandoah's Briggs Schafer at :27 and Garaway's Christian Wright at 1:01.
With the 152-pound title on the line, Stoffer was beaten by Edison's Seth Cade 5-1.
Blair (23-20) opened with a pin against Harrison Central's Jacob Delucas at 1:39. In the semifinals, Blair was pinned by Newcomerstown's Anthony Sanders at :57.
In the consolation semifinals, Blair beat Braden Butcher of Malvern 12-7. Wrestling for third, Blair pinned Delucas in just 50 seconds.
Placing fifth and serving as district alternates are Patrick Fitzgerald at 182 and Connor Finnicum at 220.
"In the finals, Jacob won by fall in a thrilling come-from-behind victory that brought the Sandy Valley fans to their feet," commented Head Coach Greg Donahue. "Francesco took control in his championship match and never looked back with a takedown to a fall in the first period.
"Cooper dropped an overtime decision in a very close bout 6-4 and Stoffer was defeated by a 5-1 decision in the championship finals. Caleb placed third with a second-period fall.
"Patrick and Connor posted falls to earned fifth place and push the Cardinals into third place."
Garaway took home the team title with 173 points, edging Ridgewood by 2.5 points.
Sandy Valley was third with 127.5, followed by Edison with 124, Harrison Central with 121, Tusky Valley with 95.5, Caldwell with 83, Shenandoah with 60, Newcomerstown with 48.5, Malvern with 40, Tusky Central with 28 and Toronto with 21.
The district tournament will be held this Friday and Saturday, March 3-4, at Coshocton High School. The top four in each weight class will qualify to the state tournament, on the campus of The Ohio State University, March 9-11.
