Although his trip Columbus did not turn out the way he had hoped, Senior Hunter Stoffer will be remembered as one of the better wrestlers to have ever worn a Cardinal singlet.
Stoffer, making his second straight trip to the state championships, dropped both his matches. He was beaten in the championship first round by Jacob Lagoa of Ashtabula St. John 17-2. Lagoa went on to win the 152-pound title.
In the consolation first round, Stoffer was beaten by Joshua Campbell of Cincinnati Summit Country Day 8-4.
"Hunter has not been feeling well the past two weeks or so," commented Head Coach Greg Donahue. "We have been doing everything we can to get him to where he was earlier in the season. Getting him to the state tournament was a task. He did not feel well at the district tournament, but gutted it out to get here. That is a credit to Hunter.
"He's a great kid and we will miss him. He's put the work in and has been a great example to our younger wrestlers. He's been a great asset to Sandy Valley wrestling."
The two-time state qualifier ends his senior season with a 28-7 record.
