Congratulations and happy belated 100th birthday to Ruth Gerber Hall, who celebrated her special day on March 3.
The Jolly Eight's Card Club met on March 8 at Crossroads Restaurant for lunch, followed by playing euchre. Hostess was Ginny Norris. Birthdays of Carolyn Littlefield and Helen Trompower were recognized for March. A get-well card was signed by all for Emma Smith and thanks was given to Nan Morris for substituting for Emma. Prizes were won by Eileen Lower, Helen Trompower, Lois Bowman and Barbara Harding. The April 12 gathering will be hosted by Barbara Lung.
Twenty years ago this week: Congratulations were extended to Canton South Junior Guild, a GFWC/OFWC Women's Club, who brought home 17 awards and citations at the Northeast District Legislation Day meeting.

Refreshments will be available, and door prizes raffled off throughout the day. The center will be set up for both a wedding ceremony and reception so you can see what they have to offer. Senior Flex Classes at the Foltz Center are going strong. There were 51 seniors doing exercising last week, with professional leaders on Monday and Friday from the Louisville YMCA's Silver Sneakers and on Wednesday a nurse is the instructor. Men and women are invited to partake in these free classes. Exercise equipment available for use. Time: 10-11 a.m.
Speaking of exercise, the East Canton Walking Club is getting ready to start walking again. We will be walking at the Village Park this season. Everyone is invited to join the club and children too. Sponsored again by Expresso Pizza. Starting date is Tuesday, May 2 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

A Kids Pizza Cooking Class will be hosted by Tozzi's Restaurant in Magnolia on Saturday, March 25 from noon-2:00 p.m. Reserve your place as a Jr. Pizza Maker! The price is $15 per student. Congratulations to Chad Neisel on becoming Sandy Valley's all-time leading scorer. Chad surpassed Gary Provance's previously held record of 1,252 during his 4-year career (1962-65). Provance held this record for more than 50 years. Jake Cayton is third with 1,190, followed by Ron Myers with 1,123, Jeff Boals with 1,054, and Jordan Tozzi with 1,028. Current head coach Gary Offenberger is in 14th with 797 points. The Cardinals' basketball season ended with a loss to Garaway in the district finals, but what a great season it was!
It was also a great season for Sandy Valley fifth grade girls' and Boys' basketball teams. Congratulations to Coaches Alison and Alyssa Sickafoose and Bruce Humphrey on winning the Press-News League Championship and to Mary Rusk for finishing runner-up by just one point. Well done coaches and players.
Congratulations to Francesco Borsellino on winning the 285-pound State Wrestling Championship last weekend. A parade was held in Waynesburg last Sunday to honor this humble, but deserving young athlete, who is Sandy Valley's first-ever wrestling state champion. Other wrestlers have qualified for the trip to Columbus and represented Sandy Valley well, but Fran's championship match was intense and exciting to say the least. Best of luck to him in the future.
Congratulations to Sandy Valley graduate Andra Lehotay on her fourth-place finish in the mile at NCAA D2 Indoor Nationals. Her time was 4:45 and earned her a second All-American title this season.
Congratulations to Nancy and Bill Farber's grandson, Alex, who recently signed to play college baseball as the pitcher for Rio Grande University. He is currently a senior at Marysville High School.
The season of Lent, in preparation for Easter, brings with it weekly Friday fish fry events. St. James Church and the Sandy Valley Eagles will each hold events open to the public. Come and enjoy a delicious meal as you continue to make your Lenten journey.
On Friday, March 17, which is also St. Patrick's Day, the local band "Red Ravin" will be performing for your listening and dancing enjoyment at the Sandy Valley Eagles. They will be entertaining from 9 pm. until midnight. This is also open to the public. Then on Saturday, March 18, the Ladies Auxiliary will have a breakfast buffet from 8:30-11:00 a.m. This is an "All You Can Eat" buffet and the cost is $8. This will also be open to the public.
