Lady Hornets rally to beat Malvern

East Canton rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat visiting Malvern 10-8.

Down 7-3 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Hornets plated six runs and held on for the victory.

Lexi Betz paced the way offensive as she went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Cassy Wolfe was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs; Kayla Eichleberger singled, doubled twice, drove in two and scored three runs; and Alexis Fogle had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

Zoe Salyers pitched all seven innings, giving up eight runs, one earned, on six hits. She struck out six and walked one.

"The girls hit the ball really well in the fourth inning which, started a rally and we batted through the order," stated Head Coach Karre Butler. "The defense was able to keep the lead. Zoe threw only three pitches in the top of the seventh to get the final three outs for the win."

Lake Center - 11

East Canton - 7

Lake Center put nine runs on the board in the fifth inning and coasted to a non-league win.

Maddison Harris had two hits and a run scored; Salyers went 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Betz had a base hit and three RBIs; and Eichelberger singled and drove in two.

Harris pitched the first two innings, giving up one unearned run on one hit and four walks.

Wolfe went the next two and 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs, one earned, on five hits.

Salyers pitched the final one and 1/3 innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits and two walks.

Garaway - 5

East Canton - 3

Earlier in the week, the Lady Hornets played Garaway tough for all seven innings, before succumbing 5-3.

Betz connected for a three-run homer, Kendra Gulling had a double, and Wolfe had a base hit.

"The girls played well," stated Head Coach Karre Butler. "The top of the order put the ball in play well. We just couldn't get it to go through."

East Canton - 15

Rootstown - 4

Eichelberger collected three hits, including a home run, and scored four times during East Canton's rout of Rootstown.

"Our defense was better today than it has been," noted Coach Butler. "The girls hit the ball well and strung a lot of hits together to get the win. Lexi Betz is on a 9-game hitting streak and has played an amazing shortstop.

"It is important for us to take this win into next week."

Betz went 2-for-3 with a 3-run homer, five RBIs and three runs scored; Gulling had a hit and two RBIs; and Salyers and Fogle each had two hits and three runs scored.

Salyers went the first five innings, giving up three earned run on four hits. She struck out four and walked four.

Wolfe pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

East Canton (6-3) was to travel to Newcomerstown today (April 21), host St. Thomas for a doubleheader this Saturday, April 22; and travel to Sandy Valley on Tuesday, April 25; to Canton South on Wednesday, April 26; and to Claymont on Thursday, April 27.
