Malone University senior thrower Duke Taylor has earned the Great Midwest Athletic Conference's Field Athlete of the Week honor following his strong showing at the University of Mount Union's John Homon Open on Saturday.
Taylor, an East Canton graduate, won the discus competition, while placing third in the hammer throw.
Taylor's winning heave of 180' 9.5" ranks as the fourth-best discus performance in NCAA Division II this year. The impressive toss also broke the G-MAC record for the second time this season and was just three feet shy of his personal best.
The two-time NCAA Division II All-American has now received the G-MAC's Field Athlete of the Week Award on seven separate occasions this year - five times during the indoor season and twice thus far during the outdoor campaign.
In addition to having the No. 4 discus mark in NCAA Division II, Taylor also currently ranks 25th in the nation in the hammer throw.
