The top two softball teams in the Inter-Valley Conference battled for the top spot when Garaway hosted Sandy Valley.
The Lady Pirates road a pair of 3-run homers to an 8-6 victory.
With the win, Garaway improved to 10-1 in the IVC, while the Lady Cardinals fell to 11-2.
The hosts jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the end of one inning of play thanks to a 3-run homer from Kaitlyn Stress and an RBI single from Hannah Halstead.
Sandy Valley crept back into the contest with single runs in the second and third innings, the second coming on an RBI single by Ari Ott, plating Meg Otte, who led off the inning with a single.
Garaway responded in its half of the third, as Cassy Donaldson connected for a three-run bomb. The Lady Cardinals tallied another run in the fourth, stretching its lead to 8-2.
The Lady Cardinals did not quite, adding two runs in the sixth to pull to within.
The inning started with a single by Ott and a double by Mandi Williams.
Kayla Campbell knocked in the first run with a fielder's choice error, and Alex Howell followed with an RBI base hit.
Otte started off the seventh inning with a double, and scored on a double from Izzy Hysong. A couple of wild pitches allowed Hysong to score Sandy Valley's sixth run.
Down to their last out, Campbell reached base with a line-drive single. The rally ended as Garaway's Allison Luneborg, who came on in the seventh, was able to induce a flyout.
Otte finished with two hits; Hysong went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; Ott collected two hits and an RBI; and Williams singled and doubled.
Makayla Loveless pitched six innings, giving up eight runs, five earned, on eight hits. She struck out four and did not walk a batter.

East Canton - 2
Earlier in the week, the Lady Cardinals (16-3) beat East Canton 12-2.
Makayla Loveless pitched the first five innings, giving up one earned run on four hits. She struck out three and walked one.
Ari Ott came on in the sixth and allowed one earned run on three hits, striking out two.
Loveless had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs.
Mandi Williams had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
Sandy Valley was to close out the regular seasons with games against Hiland on May 1, Tusky Central on May 2, and Ridgewood on May 3.
Divison III East District Tournament
Sandy Valley received the third seed and will host #16 Tusky Valley on Monday, May 8, 5 p.m. The winner will take on either #4 Indian Valley or #13 Philo on Wednesday, May 10, 5 p.m. at the better seeded team's site.
