Trailing 1-0, Sandy Valley rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat visiting Harrison Central 2-1 in a Division III East sectional final.
Austin Dierick started the rally with a lead off single. Jake Walker followed with a walk, and Xavier Sarver tied the game with an RBI single.
A wild pitch allowed Walker to slide in with the game-winning run.
Nelson Mozden was brilliant on the mound, allowing one run on four hits for the complete-game win. He struck out three along the way.
"Our players kept battling throughout the game," commented Head Coach Brian Gamble. "We have a veteran team and we have played in big games that have prepared us for this type of game.
"We made some big plays defensively that kept us in the game and gave us a chance to win it. We knew that if we had an opportunity, we were confident enough to get the job done.
"Everyone's focus was 'do our job' and that's what we were able to do."
The Cardinals (18-9, 11-5), the seventh seed, were to take on two-seeded Edison in a district semifinal on May 15. The winner was to face either #5 Garaway or #9 Martins Ferry for the district title on May 17.

Sandy Valley celebrated Senior Day with a 10-5 win over Tuslaw.
Michael Roberts pitched six strong innings, striking out four to earn the win. Cameron Woods came on in the seventh to record the final three outs, two coming by strikeout.
Roberts helped his own cause as he led the offensive attack with two hits and four RBIs.
