The East Canton girls track and field team were recently honored at its season-ending banquet.
Receiving special awards are Ja'Bria Knight - Most Valuable Athlete, Hornet Hustle; Kasey Haines - Most Valuable Athlete, Most Points Hurdles; Brianna Martino - Most Points Sprints, Best Rookie; Cameiya Newell-Owens - Most Points Relays, Most Improved; Skyler Fernandez - Most Points Throws; Ashlynn Almasy - Most Points Distance; Alexis Pennell - Most Points Jumps; Victoria Wertz - Hornet Hustle; Bria Robinson - Most Improved; Marie Murphy - Best Rookie.
Receiving her fourth varsity letter is senior Ja'Bria Knight.
Three-year letter winners are seniors Trustyn Holland-Kerekes, Kasey Haines and Skyler Fernandez; and junior Emily Cain.
Earning their second varsity letter are senior Alaynah Richards; juniors Kylie Holland, Lena Dotson and Cameiya Newell-Owens; and sophomores Bria Robinson, Alexis Pennel, Dana Taylor and Dominique Richards.
Receiving their first varsity letter in track are sophomore Nicole Conley and freshmen Brianna Martino, Autumn Norris, Masrie Murphy, Victoria Wertz and Emily Bigler.
Reserve awards were presented to junior Addison Loy; sophomores Elizabeth Klotz and Gabrielle Nelson; and freshmen A.J. Harvey and Erika Witter.
Almasy was named the Inter-Valley Conference's Most Valuable Athlete.
Winning titles at the IVC meet are Almasy in the 4x800, 1600 and 3200; Knight in the 4x800; Newell-Owens in the 4x800; and Murphy in the 4x800.
Placing second at the league championship were Martino in the 400 and Cain in the 3200.
"I'd like to thank the administration, faculty and staff at Osnaburg Local Schools, the Osnaburg Board of Education, the community, parents and guardians of the athletes, all former members of the track and field program, Athletic Director Doug Miller, School Treasurer Christine Robinstine and Assistant Treasurer Dianne Walker, Coach Lee Sternberg, Coach Jason Wade, Coach Chase Shrum, Coach D.J. Hill, Coach Sean Woodall, Coach Alex Loy, Coach Kelly Loy, John McLaughlin, Cheryl Sternberg, Beth Lampe, East Canton Athletic Booster Club, and Todd Reed of The Press-News," stated Head Coach Tom Loy.
"All of these people helped the girl's team reach their goals."
