It was a season for the ages for the East Canton boys track and field team.
The Hornets won the Division III State Championship, the first track and field title in the school's history. They also claimed the Inter-Valley Conference Championship, and brought home district and regional titles. A total of 10 athletes placed in the top eight at the state meet, earning All-Ohio honors.
The boys were recently honored at their season-ending banquet.
Receiving special awards were Zach McClaskey - Most Valuable Athlete, Most Points Hurdles; Mitch Mitchell - Most Valuable Athlete, Most Points Sprints, Most Points Jumps; Josh Conrad - Most Valuable Athlete, Most Points Distance; James McCullough - Most Points Relays; Cody Johnson - Most Points Throws; Cody Vacco - Hornet Hustle; Wyatt Deutschman - Hornet Hustle; Tony Cappillo - Hornet Hustle; Colt Hemphill - Most Improved; Joel Berger - Most Improved; Nathaniel Suntheimer - Best Rookie; Dee Snellenberger - Best Rookie.
Earning their fourth varsity letter are seniors James McCullough, Asa Roberts and Zach McClaskey.
Three-year lettermen are senior Tariq Hmidan and juniors Cody Johnson, Mitch Mitchell, Josh Conrad, Jake Bellamy and Tony Cappillo.
Receiving their second varsity letter are junior Joel Berger and sophomores Wyatt Deutschman, Cody Vacco and Colt Hemphill.
Earning their first varsity letter in baseball are seniors Travis Nelson and Tom Lorthioir; and freshmen Dee Snellenberger, Nathanael Suntheimer, Mason Cain, Michael Hanna, Anthony Reder and Hunter Bennett.
Reserve awards went to sophomore Bryce Schneider and freshmen Jacob Waters, Ty Crowther, Mikey Milton and Sebastian Hall.
Conrad was named the Inter-Valley Conference's Most Valuable Athlete as he won four events at the league meet - high jump, 1600, 800, 4x400.
Also claiming IVC titles were Mitchell in the long jump, 100, 200, 4x100; McClaskey in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 4x200, 4x400; Vacco in the 4x100, 4x200; Deutschman in the 4x100, 4x200; McCullough in the 4x800, 4x400; Snellenberger in the 4x800, 3200; Suntheimer in the 4x200, 4x400; Cappillo in the 4x800; Nelson in the 4x100; Hemphill in the 4x800; and Johnson in the shot.
Placing second at the IVC meet are Johnson in the discus, Berger in the 110 hurdles, and Hemphill in the 800.
Winning district titles were Mitchell in the 200; Conrad in the 800 and high jump; the 4x100 consisting of Nelson, Vacco, Mitchell and Deutschman; the 4x400 consisting of McClaskey, Suntheimer, McCullough and Conrad; and the 4x800 consisting of Hemphill, Snellenberger, Cappillo and Conrad.
Regional champions are Conrad in the 800; McClaskey in the 300 hurdles; the 4x100 consisting of Nelson, Vacco, Mitchell and Deutschman; the 4x400 consisting of McClaskey, Suntheimer, McCullough and Conrad; and the 4x800 consisting of Hemphill, Snellenberger, McCullough and Conrad.
Finishing in the top eight at the state meet and earning All-Ohio honors are:
1st - 4x800 consisting of Hemphill, Snellenberger, McCullough, Conrad;
1st - 4x400 consisting of McClaskey, Suntheimer, McCullough, Conrad;
2nd - Conrad in the 800;
3rd - 4x200 consisting of Suntheimer, Vacco, Mitchell, Deutschman;
4th - 4x100 consisting of Nelson, Vacco, Mitchell, Deutschman;
5th - Conrad in the high jump;
5th - McClaskey in the 300 hurdles;
7th - Mitchell in the 200.
Earning Academic All-Ohio Honors are Hemphill, Vacco and McCullough.

"All of these people helped the boy's team achieve the 2017 State Championship."
