The East Canton girls cross country team will conduct its annual 100-mile relay on Monday July 17. This will the 29th running of the event, which is the primary fundraiser for the team.
This year's 100-mile relay will be the first event held on East Canton's new polyurethane track. The really will begin at 7 a.m. and will continue until the relay baton travels 100 miles, or 400 circuits of the track. Team members take turns running 1-mile legs. The record for the relay is 12 hours and four minutes, held by the 2004 team.
Team members are still accepting sponsorship or donations. Parents, former runners and supporters of the programs are invited to stop by the track to encourage the girls and visit the 2017 team.
The team will also hold car washes on Saturdays, July 22 and July 29, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., at Foltz Community Center.
