Golf outing recognizes contributions made by William Powell

Clearview Golf Club recently hosted the 15th annual Pioneer Tournament.

This two-day tournament is directed by Jesse Brooks of Mississippi and Ron Fuller of Iowa, who aimed to preserve the mission of golf pioneer, William Powell. The tournament brings in nearly 100 golfers from more than 18 different states to honor all that Powell has done for the game. The tournament was split up into different divisions for both men and women.

Winning the men's division was Oral Bennett from Illinois, posting scores of 73 and 76. Placing second was ZR Tazby from Texas, followed by third-place finisher Dana Shoulders from Ohio.

In the senior division, Greg Mosley from New York took first place with scores of 81 and 80. The second-place finisher was George Bauman of California, followed by third-place finisher Ron Thomas of New York.

Taking home the super senior title was Joe Williams of Michigan. Second place went to Ted Lenear of Illinois, and third place to Robert Marshall of Michigan.

In Division I for women, first place was taken by Carmen Amos of Illinois followed by Cheryl Jones. The Division II first place winner was Caroline Phillips of Iowa, followed by Mary Washington of Michigan.

Clearview Golf Club would like to give a special thanks to Jesse Brooks and Ron Fuller for directing a successful tournament, and to all the golfers who traveled across the nation to participate in recognition of the contributions William Powell made to the game of golf.
