Wizards honored at basketball banquet

The Wizards of East Canton were recently honored at a season-ending banquet. Earning their third varsity letter were Katelyn Kennedy, Mary Reichard, Savannah Yacklin, Skyler Fernandez and Ja'Bria Knight. Two-year letter winners included Trinity Moseley and Addison.

The Lady Hornets swept a triangular this past week, accumulating 90 points. Newcomerstown was second with 53 and Hiland finished third with 28.

Rock Van Fossen inducted into District 5 Hall of Fame

The District 5 Hall of Fame Banquet was held this past week. Former Sandy Valley coach and administrator Rock Van Fossen received an honorary induction. Van Fossen coached boys basketball at Sandy Valley for five years, compiling a 73-28 record.

Lady Hornets pick up three more wins

Zoe Salyers allowed just one run on three hits in leading East Canton past Hiland 7-3. Salyers helped herself at the plate with a single and double. Lexi Betz tripled and doubled, and Alexis Fogle singled twice.

Gamble hits 100th career win

Sandy Valley opened the baseball season by dropping both ends of a double header against visiting Chippewa. The Cardinals were beaten in the opener 13-9. Nelson Mozden went 3-for-4, and Cameron Woods collected two hits in three plate appearances.

Sciury wins the long jump atFairless

The Lady Cardinals competed this past weekend at the Fairless Tri-County Invitational. Halie Sciury won the long jump with a leap of 16'6; was fifth in the 100 with a time of 13.29; and was a member of the seventh-place 4x400 (4:44.
