East Canton lost back-to-back games to rival Sandy Valley, dropping the first contest 7-1. The Hornets managed just three hits on the day. Matthew Gothard singled and drove in a run, Jarrett Eller had a base hit and a run scored, and Kosta Dimos doubled.

Nelson Mozden and Mike Roberts combined on a 3-hitter in leading Sandy Valley to a baseball victory over host East Canton. Roberts earned the win in relief, giving up just one hit and striking out five in five innings of work.

Youth hunters find success

COLUMBUS, OH -- Many young hunters found success during Ohio's 2017 youth spring wild turkey season after 1,895 birds were harvested, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Hunters age 17 and under were eligible to participate in the two-day season, April 22-23.

Sandy Valley competed in the Stark County Championships at Perry High School, with the boys placing 10th and the girls finishing 11th in Division II-III. The girls 4x100 consisting of Alicia Costello, Olivia Costello, Alison Griffin and Megan Hughes was sixth in 55.

Lexi Betz tripled, scored three runs and drove in three in powering East Canton past Hiland 13-3. Kendra Gulling had two doubles off the fence, her second one driving in two runs. Erica Robinson had two hits, and Julia Dimmerling singled twice and had a great defensive play in right field.

East Canton easily captured the Division II-III boys title at the Stark County Track and Field Championships, held this past Saturday at Perry High School. The Hornets won eight events on their way to 168 points. tuslaw finished second with 100.

East Canton rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal a win away from visiting Malvern, 7-6. East Canton trailed 6-0 after five innings of play, but were able to score two in the sixth and five more in the seventh for the improbable victory.
