Softball rules changes focus on intentional walks, equipment

The National Federation of State High School Associations Softball Rules Committee approved an addition to Rule 2 about intentional walks and three additions to Rule 3 regarding uniforms and equipment at its June 12-14 meeting in Indianapolis.

Ohio hunters checked a total of 21,015 wild turkeys during the combined 2017 spring wild turkey south zone hunting season; northeast zone hunting season; and the youth wild turkey hunting season, April 22-May 28, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Otte receives All-Ohio first-team accolades

It was a season to remember for the Sandy Valley softball team. The Lady Cardinals tied a school record for wins in a season as they posted a 25-4 record. The girls finished second in the Inter-Valley Conference with a 14-2 mark, and made it all the way to the regional finals.

Halie Sciury is selected as Lady Cardinals' MVP

The season-ending girls track banquet was recently held, and four Lady Cardinals were honored with special awards. Selected as the team's Most Valuable Player is Halie Sciury. Despite missing time due to an injury, Sciury led the team with 61 points.

Clearview Golf Club held its annual SilverSport LPGA Pro-Am recently. A dinner hosted by Pro Football Hall of Famer Franco Harris kicked off the two-day event. The tournament was hosted by Renee Powell.

It was a dominating performance by the East Canton boys track team as it ran away with the Division III regional title at Perry High School. With five regional champions, and 11 state qualifiers in 10 events, the Hornets amassed 91.5 points to outdistance second-place Smithville (71).
